It's Late

I should have been in bed like 4 hours ago but I have been piddling around and now it's already 1:30! I can't believe myself. Ha ha. Well, I just had to post the pics below from my birthday... Joe took me out to a really romantic restaurant that overlooks D.C.! It was soooooooo good. We both ate so much we wanted to explode. I had the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. I love that place. And, he got me a set of martini glasses, martini mix and sugar, and a blender with a smoothie setting! :o) I love smoothies so much, Jackie got me a smoothie recipe book a while back and I haven't been able to use it because I didn't have a blender. I'm excited.

On a sad note, one of my frogs bit the dust yesterday and I think the other one is in God's waiting room. He's looking pretty peaked. I read online that these frogs are really delicate and aren't good to have if they are your first frog (because they are difficult to care for). :o( Joe said he would get me a new one but I don't want to go through it again. Boo.

I have had an extremely busy week but tomorrow is my last day of work and then I am coming to Michigan! It is going to be another long day but I am excited because I decided to join the volleyball team at work! I haven't played since oh 8th grade but who's counting. The first game is tomorrow...so we'll see!

I Need Some Detroit

I need to go back to Michigan. Thank GOD I am going next weekend! I was going to go this weekend for my birthday, but then with work and everything Joe had to wait until next weekend to get time off. So we are leaving next Thursday morning when he gets off of midnights at 6 a.m. Its a long drive but we can't get plane tickets that are cheap enough. So unless by some miracle they drop we are going to have a helluva road trip (8-9 hours). I haven't been home since Thanksgiving. After that long I just start feeling like I need the get the HELL out of here for a weekend and get back to my home! This place can kinda make you crazy after a while. I miss my family so much and I almost cried today when I got my birthday cards. I am just really bummed that Chrissy and Lindsay aren't going to be there. :-( It actually worked out well though with Jackie because she unexpectedly had to go out of town this weekend. So if I would have went this weekend...I wouldn't have seen her either!

My first day of class was...interesting. I can't say it is good to be back. We have a ton of reading to do and I am already procrastinating. The classroom smelled like stinky feet, but the good news is that we are getting a different classroom that is bigger. So at least maybe the stinky feet smell will be dispersed if it is more than a one time thing. Ew.

Tomorrow I am taking the day off and doing fun stuff that I want to do ALL DAY LONG. Starting with SLEEPING IN. It is going to be awesome. I never go to work on my birthday. Or school. :o) Alright, I'm going to eat some ice cream cake. MMMMM!

I Want Summer Time

Okay, I'm sick of winter. I think I started saying that about two months ago. However, Joe and I went snowboarding again yesterday and we had a ton of fun. I still suck, but after I got over my fear I was having fun. I was scared the first time I went down that hill though, let me tell you. It was weird too because since I don't have my own board yet I had to get used to a different rental. The one I learned on (in VT) was a lot better and the conditions were better. It was really really icy this time. So when I fell...it was ugly. Hee hee. We went to White Tail Resort in Pennsylvania. It's only about an hour and a half away. Fun little road trip. :o)

Tomorrow I start school!! Ohmigod I cannot believe I am going back. I hope it doesn't suck. I mean, it's school, so of course it's going to suck a little bit. At least I have Joe there to cheer me up. Alright, I have to get ready for bed. It's going to be a long day tomorrow.

Smile For Me Daddy

Okay, someone needs to forward the memo to the rest of the world that they need to invest in some Crest White Strips a.s.a.p. Have you been watching the Olympics!? Joe always teases me because I always notice teeth--but c'mon I haven't seen so many people with messed up grills congregated in one place since the last time I went to a bowling alley in Taylor! It's killing me! How could you just lose a tooth or something and say hmmm...I didn't really need that one; I have like 20-something others. Crazy! And while we're at it, we can include the memo about wearing pants that are way too short.

Today Joe bought me some new pets--a Tequila Sunrise guppy, a frog, and an algae eater. Their names are Jose Cuervo, Oscar, and Slurp. Hee hee. I know you're jealous, Chrissy, cuz I have a frog. He is so cute! :o) I already want more. I love them! :-P

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

I normally don't post things like this but Jackie sent it to me and I really liked it so....

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle; when 24 hours in a day are not enough; remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes." The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued,"there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all of your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. So...Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical check ups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. "Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

I hate it when I think of a million interesting things to talk about on my blog and then once it is in front of me I forget. This was my first real week of a normal schedule. It was kinda weird. I am still in the shift worker mode in which I try to cram as much as I possibly can into each day because I know I'm not going to have a day off again in forever. I had to tell myself 10 times: I can do it this weekend! Once things settle down I am sure I will love it though. Actually, I already do because it is Saturday and I am sitting here watching cartoons--I was supposed to be on day shift this weekend! I'm sad because Joe is on day shift though. :( He got a new job that is a normal schedule too though! He still has to set up a start date. So we are both pumped to live NORMAL lives soon!

Plus, we are starting school...on February 22! We are still waiting to see if we were accepted because we just turned in our stuff on Friday but I am pretty sure we are both going to get in. It is a Systems Engineering/Engineering Management (Masters Degree) program through George Washington University. It has some pluses and minuses. The minus is that it takes a long ass time--four years. The plus is that it is really low key (one class a semester) and it is completely 100% free, paid for by Lockheed Martin. The more I thought about it the more I realized that I just can't stomach going back to school gung-ho like I was for undergrad. Also, I can't stomach fronting the costs of an MBA which Lockheed with only pay for partially. I am poor. So, it looks like I am going to be in school for a long ass time but hopefully it will have minimal impact on my social life, which is my main concern these days! :o)

Last night we watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. It was pretty sweet. We just wanted to see the Americans come out. I usually don't watch the Olympics but this year I really want to see the snowboarding competitions. It should be sweet. Well, sorry this post was so boring. Hopefully by the next time I post I will remember what I had to say that was interesting.

I'm Baaaaaaack!

I'm all moved in to my new apartment! I have to unpack a bunch of crap still but whatever. I am on a normal shift now too, which is awesome. And, I'm starting school on the 22nd I think. It's a weird situation. More later!
