I'm Back!

Hi everyone! I'm back! I can't say I am too excited to be back at work...but here I am all the same. :)
Well, the past 5 days were nothing short of amazing. Robbie got in on Saturday and we didn't stop laughing for the whole 5 days I think. LOL. We did most everything we had planned - see pics below! Sunday we had our picnic near the Washington Monument, Monday we went Salsa dancing - which was HARD by the way. We could not figure it out. We decided that we definitely want to try again sometime. We might try to find a place in Vegas while I am there next week (!!!).
Tuesday we went to Great Falls during the day, and then in the evening to Hook and Sequoia on the waterfront in Georgetown. Wednesday we just went to breakfast and had a lazy day. I was so sad last night after he left. :( It's always so disorienting for the first few days after we have been together non-stop for so many days in a row. But, I'm just trying to focus on the fact that I will be out in Vegas before I know it for a visit next week. Hopefully it flies by! :)
Also, while Robbie was visiting we watched two movies - Sin City and What Happens in Vegas. They were both really good. Although I'm not usually a fan of romantic comedies, What Happens in Vegas was really funny. We laughed a lot. :)
Well, gotta get some work done...see pics!!

Yummy White Chili Recipe

2-4 cans of Chicken (or 2-4 diced grilled chicken breasts)
1 Large Onion, diced
7 oz Chicken Broth
4 oz Green Chiles
1 tbsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Ground Cumin
1/2 tsp Oregano
1/2 tsp Cilantro
1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
2 cans Great Northern Beans (drained)
1 can Garbanzo Beans (drained)
1 tsp olive oil
Grated cheddar cheese

Dice onions, sautee in olive oil for about 5 minutes. Throw everything (including onions) into the crock pot, cook 4-6 hours on low setting. Serve with grated cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.

You can also make this on the stove top.  You just throw everything into a pot and simmer it on low for about an hour.

How easy is that!?!

This is one of my favorite recipes!

Normally Monkeys Creep Me Out

Normally monkeys creep me out - but I just COULD NOT stop laughing at this video that was posted on Cute Overload! So I had to share it with you!

Holy crap isn't that hilarious?!?! It's actually a slow loris. Too funny and cute!!!

I don't have much to talk about today. I'm still pooped and I just can't wait to sleep. I worked 12.5 hours tired. I still worked out though, and even though I was exhausted, I was so glad that I did.

Okay, I can't really think about anything but the fact that Robbie will be here in two days!!!!

See more Sydney pics!!!! And check out Steve racked out in the last one. LOL

Today is A LOT Better

I have been working like CRAZY for the last few days. I traveled to Knoxville, TN (we are at Oak Ridge National Lab - home of the Manhattan Project) on Sunday and I have been working 13 hour days ever since. It's been very tiring. And I have to be up at like 5:30, which I haven't done since I was working shift work. I have been trying say the least. Monday we were running around and very busy all day, so time went fast and it was a good day. Yesterday was just an entire day of presentations and discussions. It was pretty awful because I was FREEZING cold all day long, and exhausted. There was tons of junk food at the conference and I just kept eating and eating to keep myself awake.

I have been tasked as the team member that takes notes on the presentations throughout the conference. Most of the presentations have been pretty good, but (I'm not gonna lie), a few of them I had to fight to remain coherent. I guess you can't win them all.

Today I finally gave in and hemmed up my pants with some safety pins (on the inside lol) and wore flat shoes. Working 13 hours in heels is NOT a good idea. Even though I spent a lot of time sitting down yesterday, my feet still wanted to fall off by the end of the day.

Today is also sooooooo much better because, as you can see, I have my computer, we are in a new conference room that is not freezing, and I finally feel like I am somewhat adjusted to getting up so early. I got some earplugs to help me get some quiet at night while I am sleeping, and I got to work out last night FINALLY. It felt like I hadn't worked out in forever even though I only took one day off. It felt so good. I ran on the treadmill, which felt like the easiest thing ever since I have been running outside for so long, and then I did some abs and some weights (just arms).

I've realized today since I have been taking notes on my computer (rather than writing them like I did yesterday), that I can actually type faster than I can write. I guess this isn't all that unbelieveable considering I spend at least 8 hours, 5 days a week typing at work.

So, enough about all that...this post is at risk of being super super boring. One of my co-workers told me about this - and these photos cracked me up. It's called Peeps Show III - I SO wish I would have heard about it before so I could have posted it on Easter. It's a Peeps Diorama Contest! How hilarious is that?! I used to love peeps when I was younger. Now just the thought of eating one makes my teeth hurt.

And about videos of Sydney!?

Never Assume That Men Understand

A woman was in a coma. She had been in it for months. Nurses were in her room giving her a bed bath. One of them was washing her private area and noticed that there was a slight response on the monitor whenever she touched her there. They tried it again and sure enough, there was definite movement.

They went to her husband and explained what happened, telling him, "As crazy as this sounds, maybe a little 'oral sex' will do the trick and bring her out of the coma." The husband was sceptical, but they assured him that they would close the curtains for privacy. The husband finally agreed and went into his wife's room.

After a few minutes the woman's monitor flat lined, no pulse, no heart rate. The nurses run back into the room. 'What happened!?' they cried. The husband said, "I'm not sure; maybe she choked."

Busy Busy Little Bee

Busy busy at work, busy busy at home. I have tons of stuff to do. I'm not even going out this weekend because I have so much to do! And I am going on business travel so I have to get everything done before I go! And then next weekend Robbie will be here!!! Yayyyyyy!!!!! Hopefully being on business travel will make the next week go by fast - so April 25th is here even faster!!!

Since I loved it so very much, I decided to take Robbie to Hook to treat him to dinner for his birthday. I can't wait to go back (my sister, Jade and I went there a couple weeks ago). It was amazing. It was seriously the best salmon that I have ever eaten in my life. Other than that, we are going to go out dancing in Adams Morgan, have a picnic on the National Mall, and go salsa dancing at the Clarendon Grill! Every Monday they have an hour long lesson and then open dance floor afterwards! I am very excited about this. Remember the movie Along Came Polly when they went salsa dancing all the time? I've wanted to try it ever since I watched that movie!! It looks like so much fun. Jessi is going to join us, and Jade and Jamie might make an appearance as well. Fun fun fun. :)

Not much else to talk about, but I thought this pic was super cute so I had to post it. It's Chrissy's pupperoni, Dudley. He had to spend some time at the vet recently because he wasn't feeling so good...and look at his little arm with the bandage on it! He is too cute!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Great Outdoors

I am a freaking zombie today. Omg. I cannot think straight. Not good. I apologize if this post is rambling and meaningless. I couldn't fall asleep last night at all. I was lonely or something. So, Robbie and I left our webcams up while I was lying on the couch trying to sleep. I am cracking up right now just thinking about this because at one point I finally fell asleep and something startled me awake - I made a really loud noise and it scared the crap out of Robbie, Zach and me. LMAO. I seriously have tears in my eyes right now because I'm laughing about it. We all jumped a mile. Then, I proceeded to crack up for about 10 minutes. LMAO.

Here is a picture of Zach when he was sitting with me while I was chatting on my computer. What an angel fur (for five minutes).

I have some superfun exciting news - Chrissy and I are going camping! And hopefully Lindsay will be able to come too, but she has to check on airfare and see when she could make it out (I hope so!). We are going to Raccoon Holler Campground, and we are going to go canoeing on the New River. I am so excited. Chrissy and I used to go camping all the time while we were growing up. I think it's been since like junior high since we have gone together. Yay!

If You Seek Amy

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of post the past couple days. I've been very busy, believe it or not. But here I am today and it is already Wednesday!!!! :-)

Did you see the puppy that the O'bama's recently adopted? Isn't it soooooo cute?! I love it! I love its little white paws!!! Here is more about the puppy on People Pets. His name is Bo. Adorable. Adorable. Adorable.

Last weekend was very much fun. Oh man, I did have somewhat of a crisis though. I went to get my hair highlighted on Friday and it ended up WAY too dark. I was beside myself. The color was beautiful, and I love dark hair, but it just wasn't me at all. I went back the next day and she lightened it up, but let me tell you I was just upset like whoa on Friday night. I still went out dancing though. LOL.

Saturday I ran around like a mad woman most of the day, but I did go and do some fun stuff like go to dinner with Jessi and get our mani/pedis. They turned out great! :)

I thought this article was really interesting - it is about a new generation of anti-addiction drugs. Pretty amazing stuff, it says that they work quite well for some people. It also says that it blocks the release of brain chemicals linked to pleasure and excitement. Guess what? That sounds AWFUL!!!! But honestly, one thing that I found interesting is that recent findings are making it clearer and clearer that addiction is a brain disease, not just a lack of willpower. Also, the article compared this treatment to the change in treatment for depression (etc.) that was reached about 30 years ago - treating with prescription medication rather than solely relying on counseling has helped millions. Interesting stuff indeed, especially because so many people I know have had their lives touched by alcoholism.

Whew that was heavy. How about something happy? Like Sydney pics! Here are some pics that Jackie sent me on Easter. :)

Easy Salmon Recipe - In the Crock Pot!

4 salmon fillets (or halibut, or your fav fish!)
1/2 cup butter, divided in half (I use almost fat-free margarine)
1/4 cup slivered almonds
2 tbsp parsley
1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 lemon

Turn crock pot on high, melt 1/4 cup butter. Stir in Worcestershire sauce.
Place salmon fillets in crock pot, put a dollop of butter on each fillet. Sprinkle with the slivered almonds.
Cover and cook on low setting for 2 hours.
Sprinkle with parsley, cover and cook for 1 more hour on low setting.
Cut lemon into quarters and squeeze one quarter onto each fillet right before serving.

Happy Friday everyone!!! It is supposed to be a gorgeous day today so I am very excited to enjoy it later! I'm going to get my hair done right after work, and then I plan to go for a run. I'm so happy it stays daylight later on now. I love it. I feel like I can actually have some time do decompress a little after work before I workout. It's nice.

I have 4 different paths that I run in the vicinity of my is about 1.75 miles, one is about 2.5 miles, one is about 3 miles and the last is about 3.6 miles. Then I have the one at the park, which is about 4.5 miles. Depending on how much time I have, how my runs have been going, and how much energy I have at the moment, I tailor my workout to one of these trails. I use the website Map My Run to find out the distances (except the one at the park - it is marked and measured out already as a fitness trail).

I am very proud of myself because last night I really pushed myself and went on a longer run than I have gone on since the last time I went to the park. I forgot to look at the clock when I left though so I don't know how long it took me. On Wednesday, I ran a little over 2.5 miles in 25 minutes I guess it was probably around that pace again. Then when I got back I did some strength training - just some biceps, triceps, and abs. It felt great. It feels good to get the arm workouts in there to add something new. I'm used to just doing cardio and abs and then calling it a day. This weekend is going to be pretty booked, but next weekend I hope to run the fitness trail at the park. It's always nice to get out there on a gorgeous day and really challenge myself. The last time I ran it, I was just getting started again and I walked a lot!

Tonight I'm going out dancing with Jessi and Jade and I am very excited. Tomorrow I have a meeting for my school project (ugh), and then Jessi and I are going to get manicures and pedicures. I am very, very excited to go. Jessi is treating me to my pedicure as my birthday gift, which is very sweet.

Not much else to talk about, but here are some pictures below that Jessie sent me from last weekend! They are all pics of me, my sister, and Jessie at Guarapo.
Pink hair woot!
Sara looking smug. :o)

I love this pic. :o)
Happy weekend everyone! And Happy Easter! :o)

Quiz & Stuff!!

Hi guys! Guess what?! It's already Thursday!!!! Yayyyyy!!!!!

Last night was a great night. Nothing super exciting really, but it was just good. I went for a run and I also decorated a shoe box and made it into a photo box. All of my photo albums are falling apart and it's getting on my nerves. Then I just read my book and fell asleep pretty early. I woke up like 10 minutes before my alarm went off today and I was surprised. I still didn't get out of bed until I hit snooze like 3 times though! LOL. And, Robbie had to get up super early and take his roommate to the airport, so we already got to talk this morning!! :)

I am getting so very excited because in 15 days my love will be back in town for a visit. And one week after that I will be going to see him and Lindsay in Vegas! I cannot wait to be in Vegas in the baking heat. I'm so ready for summer. It was COLD this morning on my way to work. I was very annoyed. It is supposed to get warmer today thank GOD; I am just so sick of being cold.

I am getting two bathing suits for this summer that I am really excited about. Here are pics of them from the VS website!!!

The first one I ordered online but had to exchange the top because it didn't fit. The second one - very excited about this - I got a $10 off coupon in the mail yesterday so I am going to go get it this weekend!!!!!

And finally, I found this superfun fitness quiz on CNN that I thought I would share with all of you. Click here to take the quiz!

Pics from Last Weekend

Happy hump day everyone! It's strange because I took Monday off, and it just feels great that it is already Wednesday! I am in a happy mood today!! :)

Below are some pictures that I took over the weekend while my sister was visiting.

The first picture below is a picture of Abraham Lincoln's watch! What's really neat is that there is an engraving on the inside of the watch about the Confederate forces firing on fort Sumpter. And, just in case you want to check out the website, here is the link to the description of the exhibit at the National Museum of American History. And, here is a link that will take you through the online exhibition. Pretty cool!Below is a picture of the Jefferson Monument. I don't really go to this one that often because it is sort of far away from the rest of them. But it is right on the Tidal Basin, which is where we were to see the Cherry Blossom Festival, so we stopped by to say hi to Thomas. :)

Below is a picture of one of the cherry blossom trees that is around the tidal basin. It was beautiful, and smelled amazing. I'm not sure why these next two pics are so small. LOL.
Below is a picture of the Washington Monument. I just saw it there in the distance while we were walking from the metro to the Tidal Basin, and I thought it looked pretty neat, so I took a picture!
The next two pictures are just me being silly trying on bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal (and sent them to Robbie lol). Unfortunately, I think we might not end up getting either of these dresses. We might want to get something with normal straps. I am sure we will find some that are equally as beautiful though. :)

I really liked this one. The fabric was really elegant (chiffon). I hope we still end up getting one with this fabric! :)
And here is a picture of me and my sister at David's Bridal! :)
Of course, here are a couple more pics of my Sydney!! I'm hoping to go home over Memorial Day weekend and visit her! Isn't she getting huge!!??
She wasn't feeling well in this one. She had to go in the car to be able to fall asleep. Poor baby.

Last Sunday we discussed Love in the Time of Cholera at book club. I didn't even finish the book. It bored me to tears, I'm not gonna lie. I made it through about 3/4 of the book and just wasn't inspired to pick it up. If you want to know the story, I would recommend watching the movie. You of course don't get as much detail, but I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. It was a little more exciting than the book, and even though it was still slow, it wasn't nearly as slow and boring as the book.

Last night I started reading A Walk in the Woods. My office mate lent it to me; he liked it and thought I would think it was funny. :) It's about a guy hiking the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail (goes from Georgia to Maine - and through my very own Virginia). I always thought it sounded really cool when I heard about people hiking the whole trail. Now, after reading only the first chapter of this book, I'm scared of bears. LOL. So far the book is pretty fun and has definitely piqued my interest.

Whoa mama. I am TIRED. I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation. We had a great time but I feel like we ran around like mad women the whole time Sara was here!

Thursday night, even though we were both exhausted, we ended up staying up soooooo late just talking. LOL. Friday we slept in and then went to see the Cherry Blossoms in the afternoon. Jessie joined us. It was a MAD HOUSE. But it was still pretty and we had fun while we were there. Friday night we went to Guarapo and had some drinks and hookah.

Saturday we went the the National Museum of American History, and once again it did not disappoint! Again, the city was CRAZY because of the Cherry Blossom Festival. We stupidly decided to drive because we were annoyed with the metro, and ended up sitting in traffic for forever. The museum was awesome though. They have a really cool Abraham Lincoln exhibit that actually had his real top hat, watch, and suit!

Saturday night we went to Sweetwater for dinner, and then Sara and I went to the Park. We had a good time but didn't stay that long because we were exhausted. And, it pains me to say this because I really liked that place, but the Park has gotten really WEIRD. They try to be all exclusive with letting people in, and when we got in there it was barely full! And the people that were in there seemed so sketchy and it felt like a meat market.

Sunday we went shopping all day, and that night we had book club. Yesterday we went and looked at wedding gowns for my sister, and bridesmaid dresses for the bridal party. I obviously can't post pics of the wedding gowns just in case her fiance decides to read my blog....but here are some of the bridesmaid dresses!!! LOL

I think our favorite right now is the third's a really simple but elegant chiffon. She is leaning towards having yellow or a honeydew/light green with purple flowers.
Ahhhhh I'm tired. LOL

Superfun Informal Book Club

Fitzalan included me in this really cool thing - an informal book club. Basically, you get this letter in the mail with a name and address on the back. You mail one book to that person. Then you copy the letter and mail to 6 people, with a new address on the back (the address of the person that sent you the letter). Then your six people send out six letters each with your address on the back! So, in the end, you end up mailing one book, sending 6 letters, and receiving 36 new books!

Okay that explanation sounds really confusing but some of my blog readers will be getting letters and you'll see what I mean! Can't wait to get my new books! :)

Also - check out this blog on CNN called Young People Who Rock. Here is the description from the site: "a weekly interview series focused on people under 30 — from CEOs to entertainers to athletes to community and political leaders — who are doing remarkable things." I actually read all of the stories that are posted right now and they were really good (they're pretty short, so it was a quick read)!! Well, now I feel like I should go do something important. LOL

So Glad Today is Friday :)

Tricked ya. It's Friday for me though cuz I'm taking tomorrow off!!!! Wooooot!!!

I've paid for it though, don't worry. I worked a lot of extra hours this week. I'm exhausted. This is how I felt this morning:

Sara doesn't get in tonight until 9 p.m. so hopefully by then I will have my crap together. I have to work til 5:30, work out, go to the post office, hopefully go tanning, and get dinner going and everything. Fun times. We're going to be eating pretty late but I had to make dinner for my sister on her first night here!

Yesterday I was very excited because I got one of those pens with a laser pointer on it - and I couldn't wait to get home and play with it with Zach. But, surprise surprise, he DID NOT CARE about the laser pointer! Wtf! What kind of cat doesn't care about a laser pointer? He's too smart for his own good.

Welp not much else to talk about...I can't believe it is already APRIL! It's crazy how fast this year is flying by. Yesterday was Robbie's birthday and I got him a watch and made him a CD. He'll be here again in 23 days! :)

Crazy Messed Up Dreams

Oh man, I've been having the CRAZIEST dreams lately! Last night I dreamed that I was a polygamist. How hilarious is that? Omg. I'm laughing just thinking about it. Ha hahahahaaaaaaaaa

I don't really have much exciting to talk about today. Last night I had class, and it was really short because we just had to get our project approved. It's sorta messed up because being that this is considered the capstone class of our degree, we're supposed to use as many tools as we can (from what we have learned for the entire 3.5 years) and apply them to our project. So we came up with ths list, and when we showed it to him he picked out only a few for us to do, and it was because they were ones that he knew. I mean, I'm all for narrowing it down and stuff, but I think it's retarded that we only get to work on ones that the prof knows. And those aren't the ones that I wanted to do. LOL.

So, anyhoo, today is just another day at the office...except it's going to be a LONG one because I'm trying to work extra because I am taking Friday off.

I hope it goes by fast.

Here is a new Sydney wallpaper!!
