Yayyyy 2-Day Work Week!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a restful and fun weekend! I really can't believe that this week is already Thanksgiving! I am so excited to go to Michigan and see my family and all of my friends! I am not sure if I already mentioned this...but my 10-year high school reunion is also that weekend. It's going to be fun! :-D Even though I feel old!

I feel like I ran around non-stop all weekend. Friday night I finally got to go running after not being able to for 2 days in a row - because I got caught up late at work and it got dark by the time I got home (I was so annoyed). So, I was actually really excited to go running Friday! That evening I stayed in and relaxed, and watched Confessions of a Shopaholic. I was actually really surprised that I thought this movie was super cute! I read the book, and the main character got on my nerves bigtime because she was so stupid about bills (I know, I know...the whole point of the book). But I really like Isla Fisher, so I decided to watch it anyway. And, I actually really like reading books and then watching the movies so I can compare. LOL. Anyway it was cute! :-D

For the rest of the weekend, I felt like Confessions of a Shopaholic should have been written about me because I feel like I shopped til I dropped! I wanted to get a bunch of random things like Christmas tree ornaments, a gift for Chrissy, some plants, shoes, etc. It was a whirlwind! I got Chrissy a gift for our annual Christmas gift exchange that we have between me, Chrissy, Jackie and Lindsay. We are having it over Thanksgiving this year because Lindsay is not coming home for Christmas. I'm excited! We're going to go to brunch and exchange gifts!

Saturday night I went out to a new place in the city and it was so fun! We went to the Edison. I had heard about this place from a few people so I was really excited when I found out some of my friends were going there! It was so cool! It has a 1920s theme (I think LOL) and it was originally Downtown LA's first private power plant! The atmosphere was so unique and it was just overall a really neat place to go. It has a great lounge atmosphere, they play different music (like from that era), and you can actually hear to talk to people (a bonus for a lounge LOL). There were even a few people there that were dressed as flappers and stuff. I am excited to take people there when I have visitors!

Finally Feeling Rested

I felt like last night was the first night I've slept well in a week. I don't know what the issue was but this morning when I woke up I felt so good! Thank the Lord.

Not much exciting to talk about today...I was so exhausted last night I didn't even work out! I ended up relaxing at home and watching a movie. I watched Monster. Holy crap. Have you seen this movie?! I know it is really old (2003) so your answer to that question is probably yes...but I just never got around to watching it until now. It was CRAZY. I cannot believe it was based on a true story (about a woman originally from Michigan!)!!!!!!!! And, it is also interesting because last Monday at my book club meeting, we were all trying to rack our brains to think of women serial killers, and none of us could.

Look at these pictures of Aileen Wuomos (real person the story is about), Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuomos, and then Charlize Theron in real life....incredible!

I can't believe it's only Wednesday

I can't believe it is only Wednesday. This week has been so busy and long already, it feels like it should be Friday by now!

Monday night I went to my book club and we discussed The Monster of Florence. It was a really good discussion! There are men in this book club and it is so weird. I've never been in one with men (but it was mostly girls). A few of the girls suggested we get together for a girls' night one day, and I was so happy! I can't wait!

Last night I went to the Taste of Ann Arbor in Santa Monica. It was organized by the University of Michigan Alumni club. It was so fun! I ran into a couple people that I graduated with in my program. It was fun catching up. And I met some new people...it was just overall a good time. They had food from Cottage Inn, Pizza House, Stucci's and Zingerman's. It tasted just like home! They closed the bar for the event, it was all decorated in U of M colors, and they had U of M trivia and everything. They also had a raffle for a bunch of Michigan stuff - including a U of M Snuggie! I did not know they made collegiate snuggies! Check out the website here!

Well, not much else to talk about...but I thought this article was funny so I thought I would share...My dating deal breakers...I think the only ones I haven't experienced are 1, 9 and 10. LOL. Funny.

Well Well Well

Well well well...Mr. Equality resigned. Remember this post about the guy that refused to marry the interracial couple?

Read the article about his resignation here.

Things that make you go hmmm.

Excerpt from The Monster of Florence

"When I can no longer communicate with speech, I will speak with sickness. My symptoms are given life. These symptoms express the need for my soul to make itself heard but cannot, because I don't have the words, and because those who should listen cannot get beyond the sound of their own voices. The language of sickness is the most difficult to interpret. It is an extreme form of blackmail which defies all our efforts to pay it off and send it away. It is the final attempt at communication."
- The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi

Are you interested in murder-mysteries? Well, I guess this is not considered a murder-mystery (since it is a true story)...but it reads like one!

Happy Friday the 13th OOoooOooOoOoOoo

Happy Friday! Happy Friday the 13th! I remember when I was little my sister used to tell me that Freddy Krueger was in my wall, just to scare me. Isn't that mean? LOL. I guess that is what big sisters are for! I totally believed her, and I was really scared! She "claims" that she was doing it to make me "tough." I'm not sure if I buy that. Ha hahahahhaaa

I've heard a lot of reasons for people being superstitious about Friday the 13th (paraskevidekatriaphobics - LOL), here is an article from National Geographic News that talks about the history and folklore surrounding the date. And, just because I think it's funny how long these phobia names are...triskaidekaphobia is fear or phobia concerning the number 13...It seems that a lot of the superstition results actually from the combination of thinking that the number 13 is unlucky, and also that the day Friday is unlucky. I've never heard of people thinking that Friday is an unlucky day...it's one of my favorite days!

Oscar the Grouch

How is everyone this lovely Thursday morning? I am dong better now, but this morning when I woke up I was definitely Oscar the Grouch. Grrr.

Here are some pics from the weekend that Chrissy came to Vegas. They are fun. :-)
Right now that blue dress is my favorite dress ever and I want to wear it every single day. LOL. Do you ever get that way with new clothes?

I actually did email my question about sugar (that I posted yesterday) to the nutrition people at Fitness Magazine. I don't think I've ever sent a question into a magazine. Hopefully they respond with a clear answer.

So....I know this is going to be hard to believe but I decided this morning that I might try to wean myself off of caffeine. I keep reading that it contributes to anxiety (re: my post about wanting to turn off my brain lol), and also that it can contriubute to insomnia. I am a night owl (always have been) but I also have been wondering if the amout of caffeine that I have all day is making me stay up even later than normal. Who knows? This morning I had orange juice with my breakfast instead of my normal diet coke. LOL. I probably won't quit cold turkey but I'm going to try to at least limit it for a while. I'll let you know how it goes!

Just tell me what kind of sugar I can have already! PLEASE!

I need sugar in my diet. I do. I need it in my tea, I need it in my cereal, and I just need it.

I have heard so much that it is better to use artificial sweeteners like Splenda to save on calories...but now I keep hearing that those artificial sweeteners can actually be really bad. Some can cause cancer (in large amounts - but seriously if I drink diet pop and crystal lite every single day that equals large amounts!), and now I hear that the sweet taste of fake sugars can make your body think that it is getting real sugar. The sweet taste promotes the release of insulin...which in turn causes cells in the liver, muscle and fat tissue to take up glucose from the blood (storing it as glycogen) and stop the use of fat as an energy source. At least that is what it says on Wikipedia!

Since there is no sugar actually provided in diet pop, your body gets all screwed up and it just makes you eat more when your blood sugar crashes. I've heard that there have been studies that have shown that the people who drink diet soda actually gain more weight. WTF.

So, if I can't live without sugar...what should I have!? White sugar? Splenda? Sugar in the raw? Brown sugar? What? What? What?

I voluntarily drank a regular Coke this morning for the first time in ages. LOL.

I am totally sending this question to Fitness Magazine!!! Sheesh.

Feels Like Monday

Hi everyone! Wow, today really feels like Monday. I took a sick day yesterday so the Monday blues were officially postponed to today. I am feeling happier now than I was this morning, though. LOL.

This past weekend, Robbie came to visit and we had so much fun just hanging out and relaxing. We made ourselves a yummy steak dinner and watched the first two episodes of Season 1 of True Blood. It was really good! Then we watched Twilight, which was funny because I am not sure how I talked him into watching a teenage romance movie. LOL. Also, I started reading The Monster of Florence this weekend and it is SO GOOD! It's a true story. I love it. I am really excited to discuss it with my book club. :-D

Not much else exciting to talk about today, and I actually have a lot of work to do for work, so this post is turning out to be short...but here is a pic of Sydney that I love and I have as my phone wallpaper!!!!

To Seek To Eat

Every 5 years my company gives a cookbook to everyone that contains all sorts of recipes that have been contributed by employees! I picked mine up today and I am so excited to try out some new stuff!

Last weekend, Robbie and I watched The Proposal and it was so funny! I loved it. I must say, I am very surprised that I am becoming a fan of romantic comedies. I never thought I would say that. They used to annoy me because I thought they were too cheesy. Now it seems like every one I see, I happen to really like. Who knew.

I am also reading another really great book right now, The Girl Who Played With Fire. It is the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It is so good! If you haven't read these books yet, you have to check them out!

I've decided to try to go to both book clubs that my book club organizer sets up. I am glad I decided to do this because the next meeting for one of them falls on a day that I will be in Boston for business travel. I am super bummed about that because the book that was nominated is Push by Sapphire. I was really looking forward to reading and discussing this book. I'm sure I'll still read it!

Happy Hump Day!

I made an amazing revelation last night - I am actually going to be at my apartment, in California for at least 22 nights in a row! I adore traveling and everything, but last month I traveled every single weekend and I am just exhausted from it! I went to Vegas three weekends and Nassau for the other. I know, poor me. But it'll be nice to be able to stay home and have a routine for a little while! And not live out of a suitcase! And be able to cook my own meals! LOL. Ah the simple things in life!

So, in my excitement, I planned my workouts for the entire month! Below is my handy calendar that I made for myself. Also, my parents now have a treadmill and an elliptical at their house! I am very excited because that means I do not have to run outside in the bitter Michigan winter weather while I am home for Thanksgiving! :-D I added in some yoga and weight training, and made sure I run a couple different paths so I don't get bored...I am excited!

Here are some pictures of me and Robbie dressed as the Beckhams, and Lindsay and Pat as a cop and Bernie Madoff. LOL We had so much fun with these costumes!!!
Alright well...not much else to talk about today and I actually have a ton of stuff to do at work (boo), so I must say goodbye. I hope you all have a happy Wednesday!

Waterproof Camera Pics from Nassau & Miami! :-D

And how about spending the night in a Space Hotel?

Back in Cali! :-)

Hello everyone! I am back! I had an awesome weekend in Vegas and the party was awesome!!! Lindsay did such an awesome job planning it and the house looked amazing! I will upload pics (below are the few I had on my phone). There was tons of food, drinks, jello shots, and a DJ and everything! Pretty much everyone went all-out on the costumes. I've never been to a better Halloween Party!

Do we look like the Beckhams?
My future newphews dressed up as Super Mario Brothers! LOL
My pumpkin - a vulture on some tombstones!
Dirt Graveyard Cakes!

No time to post much now but I will post more tomorrow....with more pics!

Here is an interesting article to read: Collins: Letter to young American women. Pretty interesting stuff!!!
