You Never Know With Kids :-)

I bought Sydney the cutest little teapot set for her 1st birthday and today Jackie sent me these pictures! She said she loves it and is obsessed with it right now! It's the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Say Please Tea Set.

I was so happy. I feel like you never know whether a kid is going to like a toy or not give a crap about it. LOL.

It plays songs, counts, says please and thank you, and is all around super cute! The reviews on Amazon.com were totally right!

Hallelujah

I am so happy right now because:

1. I am back in California! And not in Boston anymore for work!
2. I am not in a moving vehicle of any sort! Plane, bus, car, etc.!
3. I got to sleep in my own bed last night!
4. I get to sleep in my own bed tonight!
5. I got to work at my own desk with all my own stuff today!
6. I did not sit in a 14 hour meeting today!

And…365 days ago today…I moved to California!

I Carry Your Heart With Me by Edward Estlin Cummings

i carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate

(for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world
(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart

(i carry it in my heart)

This is the poem I read during my sister's wedding ceremony! :-)

Quick Hello!

Hello everyone! I have not been posting because I was working crazy hours last week and then I went home to Detroit for my sister's wedding! I do not have time to post about it right now...and I also have tons of pictures to post later...For now, here is the toast that I gave at her reception!

Hi everyone! I’m Missy, the Bride’s sister. I first want to start by congratulating the bride and groom. I feel so blessed to be by your side today.

When Sara started dating Jon, I knew that something was special about their relationship. I remember her telling me that he made her happier than she ever thought she could be, and that he surprised her every day with how sweet and thoughtful he is. I’m so happy you two found each other and fell in love. You make such an amazing couple. It makes me so excited to see the love and happiness in your faces today!

Sara, you look beautiful. And I am not just saying that because we have a slight resemblance. I often think how blessed we are to have had each other throughout our whole lives. I love that we are not only sisters, but that we are also best friends. You were always there to lead the way for me, and today you are still shining a light on the path of love and marriage, showing me how it’s done. I am so excited to have Jon as my new brother. Jon, you are one lucky man because you have snagged one of the smartest, funniest, and most loving and compassionate women that I have ever known.

I am not going to tell any embarrassing stories about my sister today. But I will say one thing...Jon, if you haven’t figured it out by now, my sister loves to be the president of everything. So I am going to suggest to you both that you be presidents of each other’s fan clubs.

Everyone, I would like to offer a toast: to my sister Sara and her new husband Jon. May all the happiness be yours.

Strong Like Bull

Lately I have been reminded of how wonderful it is to be able to practice yoga regularly. I got away from it for a while…and didn’t have the opportunity to attend many classes. I have a few DVDs that I have always used at home – The Perfect Yoga Workout and Yoga Burn. Also, I have tried Candlelight Yoga via the "watch instantly" feature on Netflix and it was wonderful. You would think, because of the title, that it is not a difficult workout – but I thought it was quite challenging and fun! I do feel like DVDs are a good way to get acquainted with yoga when you are first starting up. It is nice to have the extra instruction, be able to rewind a million times if needed, and not have to worry about looking like a fool (because they only person watching is my cat)!

Now that I have the option, I have been really making the effort to attend my two favorite yoga classes on a weekly basis. DVDs are great, but I feel like the experience doesn’t hold a candle to attending a real class. The two classes I have been attending are on Tuesday night and Sunday morning. They are both amazing…but so very different! The Tuesday night class is a lot of flowing, vinyasas, and sun salutations, and the instructor always has the best dialogue during the class. I always feel 100% relaxed and rejuvenated after the class. She has the best visualizations for stress leaving your body - it’s amazing. It’s a great workout that includes a lot of strength building and stretching poses. Also, since there are mirrors in the front of the room, I can really work on perfecting my form to get the most out of each pose.

The class on Sunday morning is extremely CHALLENGING. Every time I leave I can barely walk down the stairs because my legs are like jelly. The instructor really focuses on exceptionally difficult strength building poses (some people have left before the class is over because it is so hard!). I love this class because it is such an amazing workout. I always feel great afterwards, but totally different than I do after the Tuesday class! I love it because the instructor always pushes everyone to try things that I haven’t seen in some classes. It’s awesome!

Now that I think about it, it is really good that the relaxing class is on Tuesday and the challenging class is on Sunday. During the week I am stressed!

Now that I’ve really gotten back into practicing regularly, I notice a HUGE change in tone, flexibility, and strength in my muscles, as well as an improvement in my abilty to balance. Now that I am a little more advanced, I feel like I can really focus on linking my breath to each pose. I notice a HUGE difference as I flow into each pose. I can now do poses that I have NEVER been able to do! One of those poses is the upward dog, in the picture below. I know it doesn’t look that hard, but trust me…it is hard! I am so excited about my progress. It is truly inspiring!

I'm Pooped

Happy Tuesday everyone! I am super cold, tired and hungry right now omg. Why is it so cold in this stupid office?

I have been working my little fingers to the bone at work the past two days. I have to work late tonight and then I am going to my favorite yoga class! I can't wait!

I actually have a ton of crap to do so I only had time to post this quick hello and a cute picture!

Until (hopefully) tomorrow!

I Heart Yogi Tea

Have you ever tried Yogi Tea? I absolutely love drinking tea...I think I drink at least 3 cups a day. One of my favorite brands of tea is Yogi Tea!

I have tried many of their types of tea. My favorites are DeTox, Echinacea Immune Support, and Chai Black. I also really like English Breakfast (I drink that at work a lot), but I haven't tried the Yogi Tea version yet.

Did you know that tea is really, really good for you? The reason is because it contains tons of antioxidants called polyphenols.

People who regularly drink tea have been shown to have less heart disease, stroke, and lower cholesterol. Scientists think that black and green tea might help rev up your metabolism and improve your skin...among many, many other things! Here is an article all about tea!

One of my favorite things about Yogi Tea, besides it's health benefits, is that the tab on each bag has a little motivational saying written on it! The one I had today said, "May you have faith in your worth and act with wisdom."

Nice. :-)

p.s. Less is known about herbal teas...the verdict is still out.

Try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup

Hey everyone! Remember way back in the day when we were taught about the food pyramid? I think the last time I looked at this (or was taught about it) was in elementary school! I was just thinking today about all the crazy diets that are out there (and thinking about the book I'm reading...The Abs Diet for Women - which is not that crazy...more on that later), and then I really got to thinking about what I was originally taught about eating healthfully. Doesn't it seem like people focus a lot of whatever fad diet is the "in" way to lose weight all the time now? I wonder why this idea of the food pyramid, recommended by the USDA, isn't really ever talked about that much!

Pretty soon they will be coming out with new Dietary Guidelines for Americans. They update this information every five years. Here is the link to the guidance issued in 2005. This is created with recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which consists of scientific experts that analyze the most current dietary and nutritional information. I'll be really interested to see how this information changes with the new update in 2010! I thought it was interesting that they say, "make half your grains whole"...when now all you hear about is only eating whole grains!

I thought this tool was really interesting...MyPyramid will let you put in your statistics and give you a personalized MyPyramid Plan. It told me I need 2000 calories a day. I really have no idea how many calories I eat a day. I might try counting them for a week or something to see where I usually end up!

April & May Workouts!

Hey everyone! Here are my pretty little calendars that I used for tracking my April and May workouts! The more I do this, the more I just love it. I really like being able to look back and evaluate my progress, think about obstacles that I have dealt with, and recognize patterns in my activities. If anything it has really given me some insight into my strengths and weaknesses...things I can pat myself on the back for and things that I can do to improve!

LV Memorial Day :-)

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Memorial Day weekend! I had a great one. I ended up going out to Las Vegas to spend the weekend with my fiancé. Even though it was a total bummer that he had to work every night I was there…we still had a blast hanging out the rest of the time! It was also really nice to be back to eating normal food again! I was so sick of eating toast. I may not eat it again for about five years.

While I was there I got to eat at RM Seafood and it was so incredibly yummy! (We actually went there to celebrate my birthday too, but we ate in the fine dining area. This time I ate in the main area of the restaurant). I also got to meet the chef, Rick Moonen! I was sitting at the bar eating and he was standing next to me, so I just introduced myself to him! If any of you are fans of Top Chef Masters, then you know who he is. I don’t actually watch the show, but I am a huge fan of yummy food so, you know, it works out pretty well actually.

Another one of my favorite things to do in Las Vegas – we went to Red Rock Casino and went to their pool, Cabana Club. I love this pool. It is so much fun, they always have a DJ, and I love how chill it is. I like going to the crazy pools sometimes too…but I love going to this pool anytime. You walk right in, there is no charge to get in, and you can get a bed for only $100 minimum, which actually isn’t that bad if you are going to be there the entire day and be eating and drinking.

Ooh…also…I went to the gym EVERY day that I was there this time! I was so proud of myself! I guess that is one up-side of Robbie having to work…once he went in I went straight to the gym to get in my workout. The month of May was actually sorta rough for me on the working out front…so I’m glad I feel like I am back in the swing of things!

Whew. So I got back this morning, and it’s back to the grind again. I wish I could come into work at noon every day. That’d be so nice.
